Below are advertisements for a line of make-up designed after the Hunger Games. This is how the Capitol sees, or wants to see the districts. The reality in the districts is completely different. There is always a huge gap between the rich and the poor. Panem is no different from the nations in our world today when it comes to poverty.
Panem comes from the Latin phrase “Panem et Circenses” which means “Bread and Circuses.” This is also a reference to the actual Games, by which, it is meant, that the people of the Capitol give up their political rights for plenty of food and entertainment. Very reminiscent of the Ancient Romans and their Gladiators. Due Friday January 30, 2015

Part 2 - The Games
Chapters 16-18
|
I feel that Rue's death is the climactic moment in the book. It is the moment when Katniss is changed forever and she wants to prove that Rue is a person, that they are ALL people, not just pieces to manipulate for entertainment.
Rue's death sparks the feelings of rebellion in Katniss and in the people watching in the districts. It flips a switch "forcing (her) to confront (her) own fury against the cruelty"(p236). She also falls into a depression (just like her mother did after her fathers death). |
Part 3 - The Victor
Chapters 19-21
|
The 6 final tributes left in the arena. This is the point where the tributes families begin to be interviewed. This forces the families into the front of the audiences minds. It is just one more way to add interest to the Games for the people of the Capitol, and invade the districts to remind the them the Capitol is still in control.
